Did you know that an NIH study found that people using canes were the most likely limit activity because they were afraid of falling? That is more than those using a walker or wheelchair.
Part of the problem is that canes are available at any drugstore without a prescription. No one assesses mobility or fits the cane to you. While it is convenient, it is not always right. Having a physical therapist evaluate and fit someone for the appropriate adaptive device is essential.
Having the wrong adaptive device can be more dangerous than having none at all. Not only will it make you safer, it will allow you to go out and explore the world around you instead of being afraid to venture outside.
Go forth and concur.
